Header Manifolds
Header manifolds are employed to connect multiple cylinders to either a single regulator or in equal numbers on either side of a changeover manifold (also known as a switchover manifold or changeover regulator). Header manifolds are frequently designed with station valves to isolate each individual cylinder pigtail for cylinder changeout and/or maintenance. Good design practices dictate these valves should be of the diaphragm-packless type and that flexible all-stainless-steel pigtails be used.
ESP's single- and double- row header manifolds are constructed of brass, stainless steel, Monel, etc., and available in pressure ratings to 6,000 PSIG. Our pigtails can be constructed of PTFE, rigid brass or stainless steel, braided flexible stainless steel, or armored stainless steel (note that wall mounting or cart mounting options are available).
Of course, for oxygen systems, we take great care in material construction in both the overall header manifold material and construction design to eliminate quick-opening valves. On systems with pressures above 400 psig, we advise against using stainless steel if at all possible, due to the effects of adiabatic compression and the low flammability temperature of stainless steel. ESP provides safe solutions, such as all-Monel, flexible-rated pigtails, slow opening valves and other necessary components for these types of critical applications.
